Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika is the most likely replacement for injured Alhassan Yusuf for Monday’s final AFCON Group A clash against Guinea Bissau, SCORENigeria has gathered.
A change of tactics against AFCON hosts Cote d’Ivoire kept him out of Thursday’s group game, but in the likelihood that coach Jose Peseiro reverts to a 4-3-3 formation, Onyedika will finally get his baptism of fire at the AFCON as Alhassan remains on the sidelines.
At 22, Onyedika is the youngest player on the Super Eagles squad to this AFCON.
He made his Super Eagles debut against Algeria in a friendly in September 2022.
A mobile, hard-tackling defensive midfielder, he has an assist in four appearances for the national team.
Onyedika has been in Europe since 2019, first with Danish club FC Midtjlland before a transfer to Belgian team Club Brugge, where he has featured in the UEFA Champions League.
Alhassan Yusuf has raised the bar with his sparkling display against Equatorial Guinea and it is now left for the FC Ebedei graduate to prove his own worth as the Super Eagles fly high in the AFCON.
