Enyimba will now need to win their final CAF Confederation Cup Group A tie against leaders Orlando Pirates of South Africa next week to reach the quarterfinal after they fell by a lone goal to Libya’s Al Ahli Benghazy Thursday night.
Ahli Benghazy snatched all three points courtesy of a 40th minute goal.
The Libyans have thus leap-frogged Enyimba into second place on the table with seven points with the Nigerians are point and a spot below.
However, it is still unclear if Enyimba will play their final group game against Pirates in Aba as they are yet to get approval from the health authorities because a South African team are involved.
They may therefore be forced to play this decisive game in a neigbouring country.
Enyimba lost 2-1 to Pirates in South Africa in the reverse fixture.
Algeria’s Entente Setif, who are now bottom of the standings on five points, will host Benghazy in the other final group game on Thursday.
Orlando Pirates have already booked their passage to the quarterfinal of the competition as they already have nine points.
