Enugu Rangers have got what many believe is a kind draw in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, but the NPFL champions have insisted they won’t take lightly Union Sportive Zilimadjou of Comoros as they seek to advance in the competition.
Rangers will travel to Moroni, the capital of the island of Comoros to take on their champions on August 16, 17 or 18 with the return leg in Enugu a week later.
The coach of ‘The Flying Antelopes’ Fidelis Ilechukwu has maintained they will give these matches the seriousness they deserve so as to reach the next round of the competition.
“No team is a small team in the continent anymore. We respect our opponents in the CAF Champions League 2024/2025 preliminary round, U.S. Zilimadjou of Comoros,” he insisted.
“We shall give our preparations ahead of the encounter all the attention it deserves.
“Don’t forget that we are still building this team and we must be up and doing to ensure that we make an impact in the continental championship.”
The club from the three Island nation that was formed in 1983 have won the national league championship four times and emerged victorious three times in the national cup competition in Comoros.
They would be relying on 31- year-old forward, Youssouf Mohamed and his strike partner, Mohamed Anoir Chamoune, who is 29, for goals while trusting the agility of veteran shot stopper Moussa Issihaka to shut out the Rangers attack.
