The Confederation of African Football (CAF) today announced that the 2023 AFCON slated for Cote d’Ivoire in June 2023 will now be played in January/February 2024.
The decision of the CAF Executive Committee was announced by CAF President Patrice Motsepe today at a media briefing in Rabat, Morocco.
This followed the request of the host nation as June falls within the rainy season in Cote d’Ivoire and that the heavy rains could adversely disrupt the tournament.
The Super Eagles top their 2023 AFCON qualifying group with six points after two rounds of matches.
They take on Guinea Bissau in continuation of the qualifiers in September.
Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe are the other teams in the group.
