Coach Ladan Bosso has promised the Flying Eagles will remain focused on their target to win this year’s U20 World Cup in Argentina.
Nigeria defeated hosts Argentina 2-0 in San Juan Wednesday night to qualify for the quarterfinal, where they will meet the winners of the match between Ecuador and South Korea.
“I said it in Abuja that the tougher the start, the easier the end for us,” an elated Bosso said.
“We have faced difficult teams like Brazil, Italy and now the host nation.
“We will remain humble and focused, so that it will be easy for us.”
At the 2007 edition of this tournament, Bosso also reached the quarterfinal against Chile.
The coach dedicated the victory against six-time champions Argentina to new Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I dedicate this victory to our new President,” he said.
“We will be the first team to give him his first trophy.”
The NFF had handed the team the target to win the World Cup.
Defender Benjamin Frederick also promised the country the U20 World Cup.
“It was a tough match against Argentina, but in the end we won,” he said.
“We now promise to win the trophy.”
The Flying Eagles will battle the winners of today’s Round of 16 clash between Ecuador and South Korea on Sunday at Santiago del Estero for a place in the semifinals.
