Belgian club Genk have refused to comment on why a proposed transfer of Victory Beniangba fell through at the last moment.
Former Bayelsa United striker had already agreed personal terms with top Serbian club Red Star Belgrade.
He jetted out to Serbia Wednesday only to return to Belgium Monday.
Het Belang van Limburg reported Genk and Red Star could not agree on the transfer, but could not give more details.
This season, he has netted eight goals in 22 matches, scoring three goals in his last five games for Jong Genk.
Red Star, who parade Super Eagles striker Peter Olayinka, are a point behind city rivals and league leaders Partizan.
