Tolu Arokodare has maintained that his club Genk could still turn around their campaign in the Championship Playoffs and be crowned champions of Belgium.
Genk won the regular season easily, but have lost some crucial games in the Championship Playoffs to now be third in the standings with three rounds of matches still to play.
Today, they take on second-placed Club Brugge in a clash that could revive or sink their hopes of becoming champions.
“You see, it’s not over yet. If you beat them (Club Brugge), you can look up again… You never know,” Arokodare told Het Laatste Nieuws
The 24-year-old striker has tried to explain his team’s slump in form.
“I don’t think anyone saw this coming,” he said.
“We had a great season, and then you keep losing by one goal. Penalties against, a red card… It was tough to take.”
However, the Super Eagles striker has insisted Genk have been the best team in Belgium this season.
“We have lost to them (Playoff front runners Union St.Gilloise and Club Brugge) more often than we have won, but I don’t think there is a better team in Belgium than Genk,” he maintained.
“We have the best goalkeeper, the best defense, the best provider and – I don’t want to brag – I am the top scorer of the competition. That says enough.”
