Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare is in the heart of a raging controversy after his first-half goal against Gent was canceled.
A Gent player handled the ball inside his box before Arokodare scored for Genk.
The effort was chalked off by VAR and instead Genk were awarded a penalty, which Arokodare failed to convert.
The big striker will in the second half find the back of the net and this time the goal stood as Genk ran away 4-0 winners on the opening day of the Belgian league championship playoffs.
Former referee Serge Gumienny said the goal ought to have stood.
“I do not understand why that goal by Tolu was disallowed. Allegedly because Bonsu Baah touched the ball with his hand after he was pushed over, but that happened involuntarily in full fall with his supporting arm”, he told Het Belang van Limburg.
“If Tolu’s shot had deflected off Bonsu Baah’s hand, I could understand if the goal had been disallowed, but that was clearly not the case here. VAR should have just let it happen.”
