Argentina players have been punished for attacking their Spanish counterparts after the 2026 World Cup final with main character Leandro Paredes handed a 10-match ban.
FIFA published a list of the players and officials of Argentina who have been punished as a result of the incidents after the World Cup final against Spain.
These Argentine players are being punished for their actions after the final –
- Paredes is suspended for 10 games and fined $90,000.
- Nahuel Molina is suspended for seven games and fined $90,000.
- Thiago Almada is suspended for one match and fined $30,000.
- Pablo Martín Páez Gavira is suspended for one match and fined $30,000.
- Furthermore, Roberto Ayala from the Argentine leadership team is punished with a three-match suspension and a fine of $30,000.
In addition to the individual penalties, the Argentine Football Association have been fined $321,000.
This was after “carrying out demonstrations of a nature other than sporting”, which refers to the banners about the disputed territory of the Falkland Islands after the semi-final against England.
Fines were also issued for “inappropriate behavior” and for “discriminatory chants and gestures from supporters.”
Due primarily to racist behaviour from supporters, FIFA announced that Argentina have been ordered to play the national team’s two upcoming home matches with a limit on the number of spectators to 50 percent capacity.
