Club Brugge exciting forward Antonio Nusa, whose father is Nigerian, has opened up for the first time on the shock his family suffered when a transfer to Premier League club Brentford collapsed at the last minute.
Nusa, 18, was set to complete a move to the Premier League that would have made him the record outgoing transfer from Belgium, before a routine medical showed he has a problem with his knee.
For the first time, Nusa has spoken about this dramatic episode.
“In London, my agent and I were told that there was a medical problem. And then we had to tell my parents and my sisters. They were in shock,” he recounted to Het Laatste Nieuws.
“The whole time I thought: there is nothing wrong with me, right? Suddenly everyone had an opinion about my knee. I read ‘all kinds of things’, even though I didn’t know what was going on.”
This massive setback has caused lots of doubts for the youngster, but he has maintained his focus is now back on his Belgian club. .
“I am now trying to do my job,” he said.
“And I have told my agents that I do not want to make any decisions at the moment. Or cannot make one.”
