Ex-Barcelona winger Amuneke led Nigeria to win the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile and was assistant to Austin Eguavoen when the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
โI am a Nigerian, all my life I have served Nigeria as a player. If Nigerians now find me fit to add value to the team, of course it is a welcome development,โ Amuneke said in an interview on Central Television.
โBut for now it is not necessary to talk about this issue.
โWe have to support the team and other Nigerians, they are going through a lot of sadness.
โWe all want the best for our country, the best for our football. This has to be respected.โ
Amuneke, who gave the likes of Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze their first break in international football, also commended Peseiro and the Super Eagles for reaching the Final of the 2023 AFCON.
โPeseiro is a colleague, who has done very well to guide the team to the final,โ he remarked.
โHe and the boys have done their best and we must appreciate their efforts.โ
