Algeria plan to snatch Reading FC star highly-rated Michael Olise from right under the noses of the Super Eagles, according to various media reports.
In March, coach Gernot Rohr placed the Reading midfielder on standby for 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.
However, Nigeria now face serious competition for Olise from Algeria, where his mother hails from.
Officials from the Algeria football federation FAF plan to fly out to England this month to meet with the 19-year-old midfielder, who has featured for France U18s.
According to fennecfootball.com, they plan to explain the objectives of the reigning African champions and why he should choose them ahead of Nigeria.
The attacking midfielder was named Young Player of the Year and selected to the English Championship Team of the Season after he netted seven goals and provided 12 assists this past term.
