Striker Jerome Akor has said Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has demanded the team to beat Russia in tomorrow’s friendly.
The Super Eagles will be without several notable internationals including captain Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika and Bright Osayi-Samuel and will instead be handing debuts to several players.
However, the Super Eagles coach has asked the new team to win after the 3-0 defeat they suffered in Guinea Bissau in a 2027 AFCON qualifier a week ago.
“There are a lot of new boys (in the squad), but it’s still the Super Eagles,” said Akor in an interview with NFF TV
“The coach has made it clear – we have to win.
“Russia are a good team. They’re hungry to play games because of their peculiar situation (FIFA ban).
“For us, it is to give our best, come out with a good result and a good performance.”
Both teams played out a 1-1 draw in a first-ever meeting in June 2025.
Kick-off tomorrow is 6pm.
