Montpellier striker Jerome Akor has spoken for the first time on speculations that linked him with top Serie A club AC Milan.
Top Transfer Expert Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Milan sent out scouts to spy on the big centre-forward.
Akor himself said such talk did not put him under pressure.
“I didn’t pay so much attention to it because I was just coming into the French Ligue and it could go either way, be it good or bad, but I was very positive and focused on training, learning and just doing my job, which is scoring for the team,” he told TribalFootball
“But of course when you get a team like AC Milan watching you, for me, I see it as an incentive, not a pressure, it is to know my football is being developed in the right direction.”
He maintained he is still striving to be his best.
As a player and as an athlete, we aim for new heights and what we are able to do,” he said.
“Last season for me was more of learning about the French Ligue 1, getting acquitted to what it takes to play in the French Ligue.
“I think i expected a lot more from myself. I don’t think I met the target I set for myself, but for my first year, I think I had a pretty good season. It is just that I could have done more, hence my frustration.”
Former Super Eagles striker John Utaka played a big role to sign for Montpellier and now as part of the coaching staff of the French club also works closely to getting the best out of him.
Akor also hopes he could soon get a chance to play alongside another Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen.
“I think all of us Nigerians are very happy for Victor Osimhen. He is putting Nigeria on the map. We celebrate him a lot, individually and collectively as a country,” he remarked.
“His story is very inspiring, how he has been able to create a record for himself in world football and he is a footballer I would love to play alongside someday.”
