Sogndal are now just 90 minutes away from a much-awaited return to the Eliteserien, Norway’s top league, after they beat Ranheim 3-1 with goals by Nigeria stars Jerome Akor and Peter Michael.
Sogndal, who have been featuring in the Norwegian second-tier championship for the past two seasons, will now play off against Mjondalen on Monday evening for a place in the Norwegian top league.
Sogndal first had to fight from a goal down, before Peter Michael gave them a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute.
Former Flying Eagles striker Akor, who was sidelined for most of the season with a back injury, then came off the bench in the 75th minute to score his team’s third goal three minutes later.
The centre-forward latched on to a through ball to beat his markers as well as the goalkeeper to wrap up a convincing win for Sogndal.
It was his first goal in only his third appearance this season.
Another former Flying Eagles star, Igoh Ogbu, played the entire 90 minutes for Sogndal.
