Venezia striker Jerome Akor will lead the Super Eagles strike force in Friday’s 2027 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar in the absence of injured Victor Osimhen, inside sources have informed SCORENigeria
Akor is top of the strikers’ pecking order in the Super Eagles ahead of Saudi Arabia-based George Ilenikhena and Tolu Arokodare with late replacement Taiwo Awoniyi at the bottom having not played for the national team for almost two years.
Akor may be struggling at new Italian club Venezia, but he has taken his chances with the Super Eagles beginning with his debut against Lesotho in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, before he established his place in the team at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
“Akor will be the preferred choice to lead the Super Eagles attack against Madagascar,” the source informed SCORENigeria
“He has earned such consideration with George (Ilenikhena) the next option because coach Eric Chelle rates him very highly.”
The attack will also have Atletico Madrid star Ademola Lookman with winger-turned-wing-back at AC Milan, Samuel Chukwueze, expected to play a free role behind the forwards.
