Ahmed Musa has said the Super Eagles are fired up to advance Tuesday past Cape Verde in the qualifying tournament for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Home team Nigeria will progress to the final playoffs to be played on knockout basis in March should they draw or beat Cape Verde tomorrow.
Nigeria are top of Group C with 12 points, two points more than nearest rivals Cape Verde, who will only win the group should they cause an upset with victory in Lagos tomorrow.
Skipper Ahmed Musa, 28, who has already featured at two World Cups, said the players are motivated to play at the global football showpiece event.
“The FIFA World Cup is the biggest stage for every professional football player. They all want to be there; you don’t need any more motivation than that,” said the all-time most capped Nigeria star.
“We said after the match with Liberia in Tangier on Saturday that we will not be going for a draw against Cape Verde. Nothing has changed.”
In the meantime, coach Gernot Rohr has hinted Odion Ighalo will play some part in the Cape Verde game on his comeback to international football.
He was not listed for Saturday’s 2-0 win over Liberia in Morocco after reporting late to training camp.
