For the second straight edition, the Golden Eaglets will not feature at the U17 AFCON after they fell 2-0 to Ghana in the semifinal of the WAFU B qualifiers tonight in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.
Hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana have thus booked their tickets to the U17 AFCON after they won their respective semifinals.
Cote d’Ivoire stopped Burkina Faso 2-1 earlier in the day, before Ghana saw off Nigeria 2-0 in the late kick-off.
Nigeria and Burkina Faso will stage a rematch in the third-place game after both teams played out a scoreless draw in a Group B tie last week.
The Black Starlets did the damage on Nigeria’s ambitions in the first half when they scored twice in the 22nd and 31st minutes despite the Golden Eaglets starting out the brighter of the two teams.
The Eaglets chased the game after the interval, but both teams failed to score.
