The Banyana Banyana of South Africa may have got a head start against the Super Falcons ahead of crunch 2024 Paris Olympics playoffs after they opened training camp a week before their Nigeria rivals.
The Super Falcons will only open camp for the Olympic playoffs Sunday in Abuja, which is a week after South Africa began their own preparations.
The South Africans are dominated by home-based players and so could open camp much earlier than their Nigerian rivals, who parade wholly overseas-based stars.
Reigning African champions Banyana Banyana are banking on better preparations and the high altitude of Pretoria to go past the Super Falcons.
The Super Falcons host the first leg in Abuja on April 5, while the return leg will be in Pretoria four days later.
The overall winners of the playoffs will advance to the Paris Olympics, where they are drawn in a tough-looking group that has world champions Spain, Japan and Brazil.
