Gbenga Arokoyo will stay on in Sweden with Umea FC after another Swedish club Kalmar FF did not renew his contract.
Arokoyo, 28, has signed a two–year contract.
He said he hopes to bring his experience to bear on Umea FC, who last season dropped down to the third division.
“I have built up a lot of experience during my career that I take with me into this new challenge. Both to help the younger players, but also to contribute to Umeå FC getting better,” Arokoyo told the website of his new club.
“I like Sweden very much. Now I can both speak and understand Swedish, so then it will be even better and easier.”
He has previously played in Turkey and the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA.
Umea sports director Adam Chennoufi said the former Flying Eagles ace is valuable addition.
“Gbenga is a big and tough defender with a lot of experience,” he said.
“He is an important piece of the puzzle as we continue to re-organise for the new season.”
