Paul Onuachu has said he believes his club Genk have dispelled doubts surrounding them after the home loss to Anderlecht with a deserved win over Sint-Truiden in the Belgium Cup.
On Wednesday night, Onuachu scored a late winner against Sint-Truiden for Genk to put behind them a 2-1 loss at home to Anderlecht in the league at the weekend.
“I think we have dispelled those doubts,” the giant striker told Het Belang.
“There has been a lot of talk in recent days. Between the players and with the coach, ‘stick together’ was the slogan. We put that into practice. Actually, it happened, it was the opposite of last Sunday.
“As Anderlecht locked us in then, we took Sint-Truiden under control. That means that the mentality is right.”
Onuachu said his club deserved their qualification to the quarterfinal.
“A deserved qualification, by the way,” he said.
“I thought our first half was excellent, for example. We had enough opportunities to take the lead even then.
“In the beginning of the second half, STVV did a bit well. They had more control and came out a few times themselves. But then there was that clever move by Bryan Heynen. I had to make sure that I was in the right place and could get the goal. “
