Last season, Cyriel Dessers was crowned joint top scorer in the Dutch top league with 15 goals and two assists for modest Heracles Almelo.
His harvest of goals earned him a celebrated return to his native Belgium and to his hometown club Genk, where he has so far scored four goals in 15 matches.
He cost Genk four million Euros, but homecoming may not have gone as hoped no thanks to injury, limited playing time and the blistering form of compatriot Paul Onuachu at Genk.
The other highlight of the past year for the 26-year-old striker was making his long-awaited Super Eagles debut against Tunisia in October in Austria.
Dessers opted to play for Nigeria and not Belgium, where he was born and his father hailed from.
He may have been a late sub for his debut, but it was still a day to be proud of for both the striker and his Nigerian mother, Sophie.
