If, once again, FC Lorient seriously sinned defensively, the Merlus were however able to compete with Monaco until the hour mark. In particular thanks to the good performance of Terem Moffi, a small lightening in the gloom of Lorient.
Was it because he went through Lithuania that he withstood the cold that reigned Wednesday at the Moustoir better?
The fact remains that Terem Moffi (21) has largely influenced the debates and the Monaco defence. His small lob of volley at the start of the six meters, logically refused for offside (21st minute), set the tone.
The powerful Nigerian striker then deployed a beautiful palette: first by making a deflection for Wissa in the heart of the game then, on the same action, once off center, he found the same Wissa who could not exploit the ball.
He also found Laurienté, alone up to the penalty spot or knew how to move aside on Delaplace, before a shot from Boisgard (40th minute).
Above all, he managed on his own to register the Lorient equaliser by taking advantage of poor control by Fofana to infiltrate the Monaco defence and beat, without style of course, but with efficiency Mannone (1-1; 32 minutes).
In short, in addition to his obvious edge, the one who was transferred this summer against around 8 million Euros from the Belgian club Kortrijk for his first experience in a leading championship, displayed clairvoyance, knew how to keep the ball, and also offer calls, which have allowed Lorient’s game to find the depth it has so often lacked since returning to the top flight.
Since the start of the season, the various Lorient attackers – with the exception of Bozok, who is hardly played now – have followed one another with mixed success, especially in recent times.
After a good performance in Nice, Terem Moffi probably settled the attacker’s debate on Wednesday night for at least a few games.
Even if (Adrian) Grbic replaced him in the 73rd minute, the young Nigerian did more than score points.
