Kevin Akpoguma’s aerial prowess and physicality were the reasons he was picked ahead of Ola Aina and Tyronne Ebuehi at right back for the Super Eagles AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone in Benin City.
“He is good in the air and against the tall strikers of Sierra Leone, who like the long balls, he is much better than Ola Aina or Tyronne,” Rohr explained.
Rohr also said Akpoguma is a central defender by trade, but he has also played at right back for his Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
The Eagles coach further said the former Germany U20 skipper acquitted himself well against the Leone Stars.
“He was one of our best defenders, I am very happy with his performance,” Rohr remarked.
