Maduka Okoye has said he hopes his transfer to Dutch top-flight club Sparta Rotterdam will help him become the Super Eagles No 1 goalkeeper.

Okoye, 20, is behind Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the pecking order of the Eagles goalkeepers.
However, his move to Sparta on a free transfer from Fortuna Dusseldorf could now establish him in the national team.
“As it is important to play for Sparta Rotterdam, it will be easier to get the No 1 spot with Nigeria and I will put everything into it,“ he told his new club’s social media account.
“I will fight for the No 1 spot at Sparta Rotterdam and also give it my best.”
He described his Eagles debut as “crazy” after he was thrown into the deep-end in a friendly against five-time world champions Brazil in November 2019.
He said he already feels at home in the port city of Rotterdam.
“I am really happy,” he said.
“It’s the right club for me and for my future, to prepare me for the next step.
“I feel at home already.”
He signed a two-year contract with option for an additional two years.
