Nigerian customs boss Bashir Adewale Adeniyi could well be the next man to steer the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Speculations are rife that he is being reportedly prepared for the top post by the leadership of Nigerian sports and his closeness to the Presidency will make this “a done deal”, according to one close observer.
Adeniyi is currently the president of the Nigerian wrestling federation, which close watchers say is a place-holder post for the higher office of NFF presidency.
He is a man with deep pockets and he is also known to be very generous.
His generosity has already rubbed off on both the Super Eagles and coach Eric Chelle.
It would be recalled that he organised a welcome dinner for Eric Chelle when he took charge of the Super Eagles and he remains one of his biggest backers.
He made personal donations to the Eagles during the last AFCON in Morocco.
A source told SCORENigeria that while previous NFF presidents have used the office to line their pockets, Adeniyi, a die-hard Arsenal fan, is willing to use his personal wealth to the benefit of Nigerian football.
It is further understood that the massive reforms expected in Nigerian football will bring in “critical stakeholders” like Adeniyi to the national sport.
Proposals have been tabled for an expansion of the NFF congress that will take in such “critical stakeholders” like Adeniyi and representatives of corporate sponsors to improve the financial base of the often-broke football federation.
