SCORENigeria can report today that Ola Aina is back to the Super Eagles only after pressure was put on him and his family as he had decided to quit the national team.
A top official informed SCORENigeria that the Nottingham Forest defender was ready to call time on his international career after he claimed he was abandoned to his own fate when he was injured on Super Eagles duty last September in South Africa.
The hamstring injury against Bafana Bafana in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier even needed surgery and sidelined him for several months.
His fellow Super Eagles teammates rose in solidarity with him and he was one of the reasons they embarked on a pay strike during the ill-fated World Cup playoffs in Morocco last year.
“It was to appease the team that then NFF president Ibrahim Gusau had to fly out to visit Ola (Aina) in England,” the official informed only SCORENigeria
“The player was still not convinced that the NFF meant well for him.
“That was why several top officials including the DG of the NSC (Bukola Olopade) had come around to talk to him as well as his father before he finally agreed to return to the Super Eagles.”
Right fullback Ola Aina, 29, who could also deputise at left back, made his Super Eagles debut on October 7, 2017, after he changed his international allegiance from England.
He has so far won 48 caps with Nigeria.
