Swedish club Malmo FF have announced that Emmanuel Ekong will undergo surgery after he failed a medical at Croatian club Hadjuk Split.
Ekong, 24, was set to join Hadjuk Split after he failed a routine medical prior to the transfer on account of a knee injury.
Malmo explained the player’s situation in an official statement.
“Emmanuel sustained an injury to his right knee in March. The examination showed a meniscus injury. At the time, the medical team, in consultation with Emmanuel, assessed that rehabilitation without surgery was the most appropriate treatment option. Since the beginning of May, Emmanuel has been fully available for training and matches,” MFF reported on their website.
“In connection with a medical examination by a foreign club, this already known injury was noted and the club therefore refused a transfer. In light of these new circumstances, we have decided, in consultation with Emmanuel, to plan for knee surgery.”
