Home team Portugal drew first blood through Pedro Neto, whose clean, left-footed strike from inside the box gave goalkeeper Maduka Okoye little chance.
Sevilla striker Jerome Akor restored parity for the Super Eagles on 39 minutes, when he muscled his way to goal with the help of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, before he fired past the goalkeeper.
The legendary Cristiano Ronaldo ought to have put Portugal in front after just nine minutes, but somehow he skewed his shot wide off target after Portugal had carved open the Super Eagles defense.
Moments later, Akor threatened the Portugal goal when he went on a superb solo run only for his final ball to miss the target not by much.
In the 33rd minute, Bruno Fernandez was denied by Maduka Okoye, who pushed for a corner a goal-bound effort.
Portugal created the better chances, but Nigeria tried to keep their organisation especially back in defense to make this contest interesting.
