Former U23 international Godwin Saviour and Yusuf Lawal will know on May 10 whether or not they still have a future at their Belgian clubs, who were denied professional licenses for next season.
Saviour’s KSV Roeselare and Yusuf Lawal’s Lokeren were among several clubs who were not given licenses to play professional football again after they failed to meet various requirements.
The affected clubs have appealed against this decision and the court of arbitration for sports in Belgium will rule on this on May 10.
Should the clubs fail in this appeal, Saviour and Lawal will be freed from their contracts.
However, Saviour’s club have moved to ensure they will be part of professional football again as they are in talks with Mouscron, who were also denied a license, and KV Kortrijk to merge into one team.
The club’s chairman has also said their Chinese investors have backed them to retain their professional status for the coming season.
