Columbus Crew defender Steven Moreira has said he is looking forward to Cape Verde making their debut at the 2026 World Cup.
Moreira, 31, has been selected by Cape Verde coach Pedro Brito ‘Bubista’ on the final squad to the World Cup to be staged in USA, Canada and Mexico.
“It’s a dream come true to be representing Cape Verde in the World Cup here in North America,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to finishing out this week strong with our remaining games and I’m excited for the opportunity to represent the Crew, my teammates and city of Columbus on the world stage.”
France-born Moreira has won 18 caps since he made his debut for Cape Verde in a 3-0 win over Eswatini in October 2023.
He previously represented France at various age-grade levels.
Debutants Cape Verde are drawn in Group H along with Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
They open their campaign against Spain on June 15 at the Atlanta Stadium.
