It was Nigeria’s second victory over Iran after they beat them by the odd goal in a friendly in 1998, while the other previous clash between the two teams ended scoreless at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
According to Softfootball, Moses Simon opened scoring after just six minutes courtesy of a brilliant solo goal with an assist by Samuel Chukwueze.
Jerome Akor doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 51st minute, when he slipped his shot under the diving goalkeeper after an assist by Ademola Lookman.
Iran top star Mehdi Teremi pulled a goal back for Iran with a decisive strike inside the box in the 67th minute.
Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu from Trabzonspor made their Super Eagles debut when they replaced Semi Ajayi and Igho Ogbu respectively in the second half.
Frank Onyeka, Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru were also introduced in the second half by the Super Eagles.
