Betis stunned the Atletico home fans with a first-ever victory with Ademola Lookman hauled off after 70 minutes.
The Atletico new signing came close to opening scores after just nine minutes, but his left-footed shot on top of the box narrowly missed the mark.
He then had his bullet-headed goal just before the interval was chalked off for offside.
He will also be booked for a tackle inside the opposing goal area and got a personal rating of 6.2 points.
The Super Eagles star will then be replaced with many, including Atletico sports director, questioning the rationale behind this as he still held a goal threat.
