Club Brugge have listed Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika for tonight’s important UEFA Champions League home tie against Olympique Marseille after he missed last week’s 4-1 win at Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan.
He missed the game due to a muscle injury just speculations over his future have been rife.
Club Brugge are 27th in the overall Champions League table with seven points from as many matches.
A win would put the Belgian club on 10 points, a total that would normally put them in contention for the top 24 in the league.
A draw would leave them with only a theoretical chance, while a defeat would immediately end their European adventure.
Even a victory against Marseille doesn’t automatically guarantee qualification.
Club Brugge must also closely monitor the results of five other teams with 8 points and two teams with 9 points.
These are PSV, Athletic Club Brugge, Olympiakos, Napoli, and FC Copenhagen with 8 points, and Monaco and Leverkusen with 9 points. If at least three of these five teams win their final match, and Monaco and Leverkusen also achieve a result, the Champions League will end for Club Brugge.
For Club Brugge, it will be an evening full of tension, calculation, and hope.
First, the team must deliver against a strong French opponent, then the inevitable wait for results elsewhere in Europe. The margin is small, the pressure is high, but the chance is still there.
