Taiwo Awoniyi is set to return to former German Bundesliga club Mainz 05 as he has struggled for game time at Premier League club Nottingham Forest.
The arrival of striker Lorenzo Lucca from Napoli has now meant Awoniyi will fall further down the pecking order at Forest.
SportsBoom reported that a loan move to Mainz for the Super Eagles striker is now being discussed.
The website reported that the German club have opened talks with Forest to resign their former striker on a loan deal.
Awoniyi previously played on loan at Mainz from Liverpool in the 2019/2020 season and he could now reunite with his coach at another German club Union Berlin, Urs Fischer.
Mainz are one of the lowest scoring clubs in the Bundesliga as they fight against relegation.
They are rock bottom of the table with 12 points from 18 matches, four points from safety.
Awoniyi, 28, still has a year and a half left on his contract at Forest.
