Calvin Bassey will miss today’s 2025 AFCON third-place clash through suspension, but he has charged the Super Eagles to stop Egypt and finish the competition on a high.
The Fulham central defender is serving a one-match ban after he picked up his second booking in the knockout rounds of the tournament against Morocco.
He has been outstanding throughout this competition while combining in the heart of the Super Eagles back four with Semi Ajayi.
Bassey said that like the rest of the team, he is disappointed the Super Eagles failed to reach the AFCON after a penalty shootout loss to hosts Morocco, but they now need to finish on a high by winning a record-extending ninth bronze medal in this competition.
“A gutting way to end the tournament,” Bassey posted on X in reference to the loss to Morocco.
“The support and togetherness we’ve felt has been special.
“Sorry we couldn’t take it all the way, we fought and we gave it our all. We’ll build on this.
“Not finished though, we still have something to push for.”
