The Super Eagles lost 4-2 on penalties after no goals were scored between them and Morocco in 120 minutes of action at a jammed Prince Mouley Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The loss meant the Super Eagles failed to march on to Sunday’s AFCON final against Senegal.
Fulham star Chukwueze has been trolled on social media for his poor penalty kick during the shootout that handed Morocco a big advantage for them to go on to the tournament final since 2024.
The comment section on the player’s Instagram has been buzzing with abuse.
Coach Eric Chelle defended Chukwueze’s selection to take a penalty kick, saying he was one of the best takers in training leading up to this game.

Ghanaian referee Laryea has also been called out for some questionable calls with fans accusing him of favouring the home team.
He booked Calvin Bassey in the first half, when instead the defender was first fouled by a Moroccan player.
Bassey will as a result miss Saturday’s third-place match against Egypt.
The referee was also accused of being lenient to the Moroccan players, killing promising attacks by Nigeria and giving them the 50-50 balls.
Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel accused Laryea of making several wrong calls, maintaining that he ought not to have been appointed to take charge of a game of such magnitude.
