Club Brugge have said they do not expect Raphael Onyedika to make a major transfer in the winter and are even contemplating giving him a new contract.
Turkish champions Galatasaray, Eintracht Frankfurt and a handful of Premier League clubs have been linked to the 24-year-old defensive midfielder.
Club Brugge Director of Football Dévy Rigaux told DAZN: “Just because we acquire a player doesn’t mean we’re considering selling him. Certain players are also crucial to the team’s ability to win.
“Club Brugge’s absolute goal remains winning: to become champions and to win the Champions League. Onyedika is a player who has proven his worth many times and is very important to Club Brugge.”
He continued: “We’re not saying he’ll leave immediately. But if the right club comes along, for the right fee, and at a time Onyedika says he wants, then he might leave.”
Rigaux doesn’t rule out a longer stay for the Super Eagles star.
“It’s also possible that he signs a new contract and stays at Club Brugge for the next few years. He’s incredibly professional and mature. I think he also really enjoys being here and is very grateful to be able to work in a highly professional environment,” he said.
