Super Eagles captain William Ekong has denied that they have demanded that they be paid a special bonus for the CAF 2026 World Cup Playoffs, which kicks off in Rabat, Morocco, tomorrow.
Ekong debunked speculations that the players are holding the country to ransom by asking to be paid a special bonus for the Playoffs.
“Any other statement/claim especially demands other than the rightful request written below (an X post clearly reporting that the players demand payment of outstanding bonuses) are FALSE,” Ekong posted on X
As reported by SCORENigeria, the Super Eagles are demanding for unpaid bonuses running several years.
SCORENigeria independently confirmed that the Super Eagles want to be paid outstanding bonuses for the qualifiers of both the 2025 AFCON as well as the 2026 World Cup.
They have only received an appearance fee of $1,000-a-man for these matches thus far.
The players did not even receive this appearance fee payment for last month’s World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin even though the NFF got the payment for this.
The matter of special bonus did not come from the players.
Instead, it was a promise by the NFF leadership a month ago and even at that there was no conclusion on this.
On Tuesday, the Super Eagles boycotted training in Rabat ahead of Thursday’s Playoffs clash against Gabon.
They handed the NFF an ultimatum to clear unpaid bonuses or they will be heading back to their various clubs and not play against Gabon.

BUT MOST TIMES, SUPER EAGLE PLAYERS ARE THE ONE USING THEIR CLUB WAGES TO BE FINANCING THEMSELVES WHEN COMING TO PLAY FOR NATIONAL TEAM JUST IN THE NAME OF PATRIOTIC. ARE THEY NOT HAVING FAMILIES, CHILDREN, RELATIVES THEY ARE TAKING CARE OF.
NFF SHOULD PAY PLAYERS ‘s MONEY BECAUSE IT ALREADY BEEN INCLUDED INTO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BUDGET( despite FIFA & CAF grant ).
