Coach Justine Madugu has warned that the Super Falcons will not take the Amazons of Benin lightly when both teams clash again in a 2026 WAFCON eliminator in Abeokuta tomorrow.
The Super Falcons won the first leg 2-0 in Togo at the weekend with the overall winners advancing to next year’s WAFCON, which will also serve as qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
“We are looking forward to a tough game from the Beninoise, but we will be ready for that by putting up a good performance with the ultimate goal of qualification to the 2026 Women AFCON, where we hope to retain our title and further qualify for the World Cup in Brazil in 2027,” stated Madugu.
“The Amazons with about 10 professional players from Germany, Morocco, France and Equatorial Guinea gave a good account of themselves in the first leg, to underscore the fact that underrating any team now in Africa could be at your own peril.
“We are not taking anything for granted or leaving anything to chance. We will be ready to go all out for victory.”
The Amazons of Benin posted a spirited performance in their adopted home in Togo and had at least three chances to score against the 10-time African champions.
Madugu will pick his best team for this reverse tie with the energetic Deborah Abiodun expected to again pull the strings from midfield after she provided the assists for the two goals in the first match.
The 14th WAFCON will be hosted by Morocco between March 17 and April 3, 2026
