SCORENigeria can exclusively report today that there is an official stay on execution for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle and so he will be the man to lead the team to next month’s 2026 World Cup Playoffs in Morocco.
The NFF technical committee met in Abuja Thursday and one source told SCORENigeria that his matter was not discussed when he would have been the major topic had Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup Tuesday.
Eric Chelle was appointed Super Eagles coach January tasked with the No 1 target to qualify Nigeria to the 2026 World Cup.
Officials told SCORENigeria that failure to meet this target would have got the NFF to trigger the clause in his two-year contract to review it.
The former Mali coach won 14 of the 17 points the Super Eagles achieved in the 10 qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.
He beat Rwanda home and away, demolished Benin 4-0, stopped Lesotho at home 2-1 as well as drew with both South Africa and Zimbabwe.
He will now lead the team to the continental Playoffs in Morocco next month.
The Super Eagles face impressive Gabon in the first semifinals on November 13 with the winners up against the winners of the other semifinal between DR Congo and Cameroon three days later.
The overall winners of the playoffs will then qualify for the Intercontinental Playoffs in Mexico in March.
