Tomorrow, the CHAN Eagles will begin their 2024 WAFCON campaign against defending champions Senegal in Zanzibar.
Nigeria have yet to win this competition reserved for players who are based in their domestic leagues.
Several players like Papa Daniel, Isaac Saviour, Abubakar Sadiq and Waliu Ojetoye have opted to pursue careers overseas than to feature at this delayed CHAN, which was originally slated last year but the host nations were not ready.
Despite these absentees, the home-based Eagles go into this tournament tomorrow against defending champions Senegal unbeaten.
The new team under Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle dominated both final warm-up matches against Zanzibar, but they could not post a heart-warming victory going into tomorrow’s showdown.
Captain Nduka Junior, Sikiru Alimi, Sodiq Ismail and goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena soared high for Nigeria to go past arch-rivals Ghana in the final playoffs.
New additions like Tochukwu Michael, Shola Adelani, Anthony Ijeoma and Godwin Obaje now have a chance to also shine on this continental stage.
