Highly experienced midfielder Halimatu Ayinde has promised the Super Falcons will be up for the fight against hosts Morocco, who will have a packed stadium cheering them, as they aim to reclaim the WAFCON title they lost three years ago.
The Super Falcons will from 8pm tonight at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat seek a record-extending 10th WAFCON.
Tonight’s championship game will be a repeat of a controversial semifinal of the 2022 WAFCON, where host nation Morocco won on penalties to record their first-ever victory over the Super Falcons.
Trojan Ayinde has now declared Nigeria are up for battle tonight.
“Almost all the teams we have played are very technical. We won against them, but everything has been good,” the combative defensive midfielder told cafonline.com
“This final is not going to be different. We are going to stick together as a team and fight for each other.”
The Sweden-based defensive midfielder said the Super Falcons have now banished the disappointment of not making the podium for the first time three years ago.
“I would say yes, we’ve changed the perception. During the last tournament, almost every Nigerian had written us off. But now that we are back, winning games and in the final, I think that has changed the narratives. We are back as the giant of Africa,” she said.
Nigeria’s unbeaten run to the WAFCON 2024 final has been driven not just by talent, but by tactical maturity and emotional togetherness—values Ayinde represents on and off the pitch.
“The experience has been great with the fact that we have been winning from the beginning. Everyone has been working really hard and making efforts to get the results. That’s a very good start for the team and has brought us to where we are now,” she said.
