The Flying Eagles are sweating on the fitness of goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt for tomorrow’s U20 AFCON third-place match against hosts Egypt.
Kick-off time is 4pm Nigerian time.
Harcourt, who was the penalty shootout hero when he saved two penalties for Nigeria to go past defending champions Senegal in the quarterfinal, was injured in the semifinal against South Africa.
In his absence, substitute Ajai Yakub committed a howler that stopped Nigeria from reaching the final of the competition.
Harcourt is still under observation and would need a second assessment at Saturday night’s official training to determine if he will be fit to return to battle.
This will be the fifth time that Nigeria, who won the title in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015 will be playing for the bronze medals. For Egypt, it will be the fourth time.
Both have won the bronze medals three times previously.
