Today’s NPFL matchday was littered with several shock results after champions Enyimba and front runners Akwa United fell at home and bottom club Enugu Rangers won at Warri Wolves.
Enyimba, who were still basking in a 4-1 demolition of Algeria’s AC Paradou in the CAF Confederation Cup, were upset by regional rivals Heartland 2-0 in Aba.
Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa saved a first-half penalty for Heartland in this ‘Oriental Derby’.
Akwa United will still be dazed after they lost 2-0 to Kwara United right in front of their fans and just days after they recorded a valuable draw at Plateau United.
Alao Danbani netted a brace for the Ilorin outfit.
Rangers continued to run of shock results after they stunned Warri Wolves 2-1 in Warri, Rivers United upstaged leaders Lobi Stars 2-1 in Port Harcourt, while Plateau United faltered again after they lost 2-1 at Sunshine Stars.
However, Lobi Stars remain top of the table on 27 points ahead of Rivers United, who also have 27 points with inferior goals difference.
Rangers road win takes them off the foot of the table as they now have 12 points from 11 matches.
Joshua Akpuje scored a strange hat-trick for MFM FC to beat Jigawa Golden Stars 2-1.
He first scored against his team, before he redeemed himself by firing two goals in the correct post.
Katsina United forced Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw in the Northwest Derby, while Adamawa played out a scoreless draw with fellow strugglers Wikki Tourists.
