Coach Eric Chelle faces a serious selection crisis with the Super Eagles for the Unity Cup, the four-nation invitational tournament, scheduled for London next month because he will be without several of his best players.
SCORENigeria can exclusively report that the Super Eagles will be without star striker Victor Osimhen as well as their Premier League stars like Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi because they will not be readily available as their leagues will still be going on or just ended around the time of the London tourney.
Action in the Premier League final day will be on May 25 and according to FIFA rules, no player will be allowed to be play at least 3 days after, which means the Super Eagles players from that league will miss the Jollof Derby against Ghana slated for May 27.
Osimhen will even be out of both matches in London because the Super Lig in Turkey will only end on May 31, a day after the final of the tournament in London.
In Italy and Belgium, the leagues will end on May 25, same as the Premier League, which means that the likes of Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (Lazio), Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge) and Tolu Arokodare (Genk) will also miss the match against the Black Stars of Ghana going by the FIFA rule.
The fact of the matter is these complications have been caused because the Unity Cup is being played outside the FIFA international window, which is June 2 to 10.
