Red-hot Union St.Gilloise striker Promise David has given reason why he has changed his international allegiance from Nigeria to Canada.
The striker has featured for Nigeria at U23 level even though he was born to Nigerian parents in Canada.
As first reported by SCORENigeria, he has now applied to play for Canada at full international level.
He said this is so because Canadian football developed him.
“Canadian football raised me. So I feel like I owe it back to Canada to perform for them,” David told The Athletic
He could now be called up as early as next month for the CONCACAF Nations League by Canada coach Jesse Marsh.
The 23-year-old striker has thus far fired 13 goals in all competitions for his Brussels club Union in his first season in Belgium.

He knows that there’s a slim chance of making hay in star studded SE,so he decided to team up with Canada with much hope of making hay. It’s as simple as that for David Promise
This why we have to revamp and restructure our football system. We want to be reaping where we did not sow. Until we do our due diligence and be transparent we will not get the best players that will represent us. There are talented and competent players in Nigeria that are yet to be discovered and scouted. Let’s do the necessary and select players on merits and not on the basis of cronyism and see if we will not move forward.
I now Promise David and he my son as Nigeria. I am a Big uncle ,like he said that he owed Canada to pay back let’s him do it.maybe later in future he can Change his mind
