Kano Pillars veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali has been recalled by the CHAN Eagles, but will he feature in his third CHAN at the ripe old age of 44?
Criticisms have greeted the inclusion of the durable Rabiu Ali on the current CHAN Eagles squad.
Critics have suggested he no longer has the legs for the competition, while others maintained he is blocking the place of a younger player like Kazeem Ogunleye of Enugu Rangers.
In his defence, his experience and leadership qualities will come in handy for a team, who have not featured in this tournament for the past six yars.
Rabiu Ali, who is better known as ‘Pele’ in Kano, featured at the 2014 and 2018 CHANs, where Nigeria won third-place and were beaten finalists, respectively.
He made the matchday squads for both legs of final playoffs against Ghana, but only played the last five minutes of the Uyo match.
The evergreen midfield general has scored eight goals thus far for Kano Pillars this NPFL season playing mostly a free role behind the strikers.
