Super Falcons caretaker coach Justin Madugu has said he hopes to see how some of the new players come through against France tomorrow night in Angers.
The Super Falcons face home team France without top stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Asisat Oshoala as well as defender Tosin Demehin.
The 20-player squad for the France friendly include strikers Blessing Nkor, who features for Pyramids of Egypt, and Mercy Omokwo from Bayelsa Queens.
“The key objective against France, yes, it is a friendly game but we need to ensure that we look at the standards. What is the level we are today and individually we assess the players,” Madugu said.
“Quite a number of our foreign-based players have played against the top five countries in the world at the last Olympics. Playing against France should not be an issue for quite a number of our foreign-based players. Some played against them at the World Cup.
“We need to see others. We know a lot of them already. We are looking at areas we need to get good substitutes in case something happens, you know you have a backup at least four with a large pool of players to always pick from.”
Last month, an experimental team made up largely of players from the domestic league beat Algeria twice in friendlies in Nigeria.
He described the team’s performance as “commendable” with the main target for the Super Falcons to reclaim the WAFCON in July 2025 in Morocco.
Kick-off tomorrow night is 9pm.
