Former Super Eagles coach and captain, Sunday Oliseh, has lamented that the country have glorified mediocre foreign coaches to the detriment of their Nigerian colleagues.
Oliseh headed the Super Eagles between 2015 and 2016 before he quit after he was owed salary for four months.
The former Super Eagles captain, who now styles himself as a “soccer expert”, has added another dimension to the debate of foreign coach vs Nigerian coach for the national team.
Oliseh said Nigerian coaches were not empowered when they headed the national team.
“We don’t love our kind,” he said on Monday Night Football on SuperSport TV.
“(Stephen) Keshi was treated badly. I know the hell he saw as Super Eagles coach.
“We should treat Nigerians right, give them what you give the foreign coach.
“They ought to pay the same thing they pay the foreign coach, they should also give the Nigerian coach psychological and media support so that the players will listen and respect such a coach.”
He added: “We ought to encourage what we have back home.
“If you don’t respect your people, you’re the most disgusting human being.”
Oliseh further said he is “totally behind” Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen, who has been mandated to qualify the country to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
